Installing RNS-E SAT NAV for Audi A4 As one of the major options on the A4 you can get a DVD Satellite Navigation System call the RNS-E. With the help of eBay these sat nav systems are now available to by at a rough cost of £650 plus the cost of all the other parts that are required.
This question is a bit of an FAQ! There is a recent thread on this - If it's a company car, ask your company if they will retrofit. If you need to do it yourself, the costs are mentioned in the above link. If you go the eBay route and get a dealer to activate please post back on here how much it cost - many will be interested. To be honest, unless you want to use it a lot it's probably better and certainly more economical to just buy a sat nav and stick it on the windscreen. That's what I do.
But if I could somehow get a SD card and have it activated for less than a couple of hundred quid, I probably would! Hi Max It's only really SD sat nav that you can retrofit. Connect is a whole different ball game (including a different screen as well that comes with the Tech pack) If you haven't got Tech pack then you will have to live without it - you will probably survive.
In the sat nav link I gave above someone posted that their Audi dealer said that the activation charge would be £150 on an unused card obtained elsewhere. You can get them off eBay for under £100 - supposedly unused.
But it would be a bit of a risk. I'm waiting for someone to try it out. Hi Max It's only really SD sat nav that you can retrofit. I'm waiting for someone to try it out. Slightly off topic, but even with the MMI+ (Plus) Audi Connect system I was surprised that the myaudi website that you can download map updates from don't even freaking work. Audi Connect mobile App for Android is Asstastic, the preview pic of the app on Google Play show features like Remote Unlock, etc.
I update my Audi Connect mobile App and it's worse than before, there's no remote unlock, and the map location search barely functions, freezes constantly and it acts like it can beam a destination to your car, but when you login to the Audi Connect from the MMI in the car, the destination you just beamed to the car doesn't even list. Audi Technology is like 1980s at best. They really need to outsource their technology to Apple, Google, Intel, Microsoft, Tesla, somebody else.
Hi, Agree with the above, plenty of places will offer you a cheaper disk, but it will most likely be a copy. What are you trying to achieve with a newer disk, is the current map many years out of date, or do you lack functionality such as TMC or '3D' mapping? Originally my car had the original 2005 maps, I didn't find them that inaccurate tbh, but the TMC function just didn't work.
Turned out a later disk fixed that, but the MMI software update to 5570 gave me other features and bug fixes. I'd recommend sticking with original disks for obvious reasons, but maybe widen the search to people advertising cars for breaking as this could be a good way to get a later map at a better cost. Hi The TMC works, I dont know if the new disk would 3D maps, it would be nice but i assume 2G suggestes 2D maps. The main reason for aquiring a new disk is some of my customers are in new developments and there are new bypasses etc in the areas i travel for work, these are not digitised on the 2008 disk. I have seen the £25 disks but i am suspiciouse of their functionality and if its the genuine articleIts just a 3d overview not actual 3d images like the MMI 3G units, but I just keep mine on current position all the time anyway. The £25 discs wont be genuine, as I said above, they will be selling you illegal copies which goes no further on here Genuine all the way, unfortunately you need to pay £100+ for it. Hi, The 3D maps is a function of the MMI software version, it's not true 3D but it looks better than the flat map (albeit with less side street names in this mode).
Does your car have a colour screen and the nav DVD drive in the boot? You will probably find an improvement in mapping from 2008 although I do find some of the newer places that have been there a couple of years are still not accurately mapped in the 2011 disk I have.
