On 22 June 1974 Vijay was born in Madras (now Chennai) India. His father’s name is S. Chandrasekhar who is a well-known Tamil film director. His mother’s name is Shoba Chandrasekhar who is a reputed playback singer and carnatic vocalist. Vijay grew up in Chennai.

Vijay had a sister (Vidhya), who died when Vidhaya was two years old. And Vidhya’s death affected him very much. Vijay completed his schooling from Balalok Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Virugambakkam.
